About The Baragoola Preservation Association Inc.

 

The Baragoola Preservation Association Incorporated is a non-profit, community-based organisation which was formed in 2010. The Association is incorporated in NSW under the Associations Incorporation Act 2009.

The Baragoola Preservation Association Incorporated is a charitable organisation established for the purpose of restoring and maintaining the vessel M.V. Baragoola as an important part of Sydney’s maritime heritage. The Association is listed as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

The restoration works are generally carried out by members of the Association – our volunteers. The Association maintains Public Liability, Voluntary Workers Compensation and Hull insurance policies. The Association is a wholly volunteer managed and operated entity, with no paid staff.

Our NSW Associations Registration Number is INC9891741, and our Australian Business Number is 69505496214. Our most recent Association Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held in December 2018. Our most recent Annual return, being for the 2017-18 finanacial year, was lodged with the Department of Fair Trading NSW in January 2019.

 

Our Funding Sources

The Association currently sources funds from sponsorship from private individuals, as well as commercial and corporate organisations interested in supporting the project.

All donations are welcome. We are very grateful for the many sponsors who have already donated so generously towards the project.

For the purposes of tax deductibility the following are considered suitable gifts by the Australian Taxation Office:

  • Donations of $2 or more – 100% tax deductible;
  • Property > $5,000 – property valued by the ATO at more than $5,000;
  • Property < 12 months – property purchased during the 12 months before the gift was made;
  • Trading stock – trading stock disposed of outside the ordinary course of business;
  • Cultural gifts – gifts made under the Cultural Gifts Program;
  • Cultural bequests – gifts made under the Cultural Bequests Program;
  • Heritage gifts – places included in the National Heritage List, the Commonwealth Heritage List or the Register of the National Estate
